Sometimes that's good - sometimes it ISN'T. Retroclones and other editions are typically going to emphasize what the author(s) wanted to emphasize and remove other aspects they personally didn't like or think were important. If you want the most complicated and truckloads of options (too much IMO) for players, then 2E. If you want to find out what this "1E Feel" everyone keeps talking about is ACTUALLY about, then 1E. If you want simple and more power in the hands of the DM, then BASIC. It helps to know the sort of game THINK you'd prefer if you just don't have anything else to go by. The one that the DM is most willing to run (even knowing nothing about it) The one the DM is most interested in for whatever reason The one that the players express a preference for The one that most of the people in your group are familiar with ![]() The one that is least expensive to obtain
